Fashionistas and vintage passionistas won’t want to miss the “Vintage Bike + Fashion Show” and the "Vintage Bike Contest" during Downtown Long Beach Associates’ BikeFest on Saturday May 11th at 1:00 pm.
The always bespokely beautiful Council Member and Women on Bikes SoCal spokeswoman Dr. Suja Lowenthal will launch the fashion show introducing one of our local top design mavens Joen Garnica of Garnica Interiors (and our new Adventures by Bike columnist) as our event MC. This gorgeous look down memory lane has been curated by the uber stylish Sandra Pimentel, our new "Bike is the New Black" columnist.
Long Beach's famous bike + vintage culture will be showcased as never before! The creative and talented of downtonw have come together as Atlantic Studio's Chelsy Watson and Michelle Salemi, and the very talented women of the Long Beach Derby Gals and more create gorgeous hair and makeup looks of the past. Favorite Long Beach destination boutiques such as Ay Que Vintage, the Le Femme for Make Collective, Anneise, Elev8, Native Sol, 1987LB and the Downtown Darling Collection have apparel from both from the past and inspired by the past from the 1920’s through the 1980’s which our models will proudly pedal down the catwalk on a bike matched to their era and look.
The “Vintage Bike + Fashion Show” will also feature the dapper vintage style of Long Beach’s Bernard C. Serrano and the popular Cyclone Coaster riding club – the largest monthly vintage ride in the country. Serrano is also a vintage bicycle collector of note, with more than 100 bicycles in his collection, and a talented swing dancer who has danced for such bands as The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
