Long Beach CA – Savvy style mavens know the bike is it as the hipster design-friendly-green-friendly urban transit tool. A big reason for this is the work of “Urban Mobility Expert” and "Bicycle Anthropologist" Mikael Colville-Andersen. Colville-Andersen coined the phrase "Cycle Chic" in 2006 from his http://www.copenhagencyclechic.com/ blog and launched a world-wide movement by celebrating his elegant hometown's stylish bike-friendly stance with his captivating photography and inviting others to do the same from their own locations. Touted as "The Sartorialist on Two Wheels" and "One of the Top Ten Fashion Blogs" by the Guardian U.K., Colville-Andersen has now published the Cycle Chic book and has been featured in the U.S. in 2012 in Details.com, Town and Country Magazine and more.

On Thursday Sept. 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm host Women on Bikes SoCal with and spokeswoman Dr. Suja Lowenthal, Council Member for Long Beach will welcome Colville-Andersen as the guest of honor at the "Cycle Chic: Past, Present & Future" urban bike and fashion show as The Promenade and Promenade Park in plays catwalk. Immediately adjacent to the state-of-the-art Bikestation at 223 E. 1st Street in downtown Long Beach 90802 the event will showcase the best in both vintage and hot new urban bikes, as well as eye catching fall fashion in a celebration of "dressing for the destination in style rather than for sport." The event will also include live music from Alyssandra Nighswonger, DJ Farmer Dave Scher, the chance to win bikes from Giant and Nirve and more fabulous prizes, New Belgium Brewing as the craft beer sponsor, and delicious food from Primal Alchemy Catering and Beachwood BBQ! Tickets start at just $15.00 for General Admission ($20 at the door) and $50 for VIP Admission. Tickets can be purchased at: http://www.womenonbikessocal.org/cycle-chic-past-present-futur/.

Electra is a fashion brand that happens to make bikes, so it made perfect sense to support this great event which encourages and inspires the fashionable side of cycling. It's what we have been dedicated to for twenty years.” says Elayne Fowler, Marketing Director for Electra Bicycle Company.

The “dress for the destination not for sport” apparel lines to be showcased include Yellow 108 sustainable head-ware, BK Phillips, ANNEISE, The Academy Long Beach, Jena Awad, Bicycle Fixation, Rebecca Michaels & Violet Love, DK75RAW – KustomQueens Danielle Kelly & Jhoine Donnell, PoCampo bags, Cambridge Raincoat Company, Nona Varnado, Vespertine, Jill Yee, Elle B See, Rose Pedals Jewelry, Riyoko, Raven & Lily, Made by Adriane, My Alibi, Nuu-Muu, SongBird, Sneaky Tiki Boutique, Long Beach Trading Co., and Nativistic Jewelry.

Southern California’s hottest bike lines will be featured including Jamis Bicycles, Globe, Nirve, Electra Bicycle Company, Linus Bikes and Pedago Electric Bikes. Vintage bikes from the Cyclone Coaster riding club (one of largest vintage rides in the country) and The Bicycle Stand both of Long Beach, will be showcased as well.

Held on the last day of the "Pro Walk/Pro Bike: Pro Place 2012 Conference” (where Colville-Andersen will also be a keynote) and as a part of the first national "Women's Bicycling Summit" the "Cycle Chic: Past, Present & Future" fashion show will illustrate in part why Bicycling Magazine ranked the Long Beach #19 on its list of most bike-friendly cities in the U.S. this year and just how hot the Cycle Chic movement has become in Southern California.

About Women on Bikes SoCal

The "Cycle Chic: Past, Present & Future" show is a fundraiser for the event’s host Women on Bikes SoCal, dedicated to celebrating the joy, beauty and benefits of bicycling for women. The initiative’s goal is to help double the number of women and girls actively riding bikes in Southern California over the next five years by harnessing the power of style and fashion to engage and empower women to embrace the bike as a smart, cost-effective and healthy mobility tool. This December Women on Bikes SoCal will launch a new pilot program called “Street Savvy” – a hands-on adult bicycle safety education program in collaboration with Bike Long Beach and Livable Communities to bring free, time efficient, bi-lingual adult bicycle safety education to Long Beach and other local areas in need of healthy mobility options.

Sponsors for the "Cycle Chic: Past, Present & Future" fashion show include: Bikeable Communities, Choura Events, New Belgium Brewing, the League of American Bicyclists, Momentum Magazine, the Downtown Long Beach Business Association, interTrend Communications, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, Jamis Bicycles, Globe Bicycles, TeamEstroJen, Nirve Bicycles, Joen Garnica Interiors, the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, Electra Bicycle Company, Violet Love Headbands and more.
