Street Savvy Adult Bicycle Education Classes
"This was a really great class! In only 2 short hours Krista and the other instructors managed to get a lot of useful information across, take us on a bike ride filled with real world bike safety examples and help the participants feel a lot more confident about riding our bikes on LBC streets -- even Atlantic Ave! Thank you!" Heather Morrison.

About Street Savvy
Street Savvy is a short, two-hour, completely "hands on" bicycle safety class developed to help novice adult bicyclists learn the tools and tips they need to feel confident and safe riding their bikes for daily local errands, regular exercise, and riding on the weekends with family and friends.
Street Savvy was originally developed by Bike Long Beach for their "Share Our Streets" multi-media road safety campaign courtesy of a grant from Metro. With a maximum of 12 participants per class, the class utilizes the local neighborhood to teach riders in a real world environment as well as showcase to riders how beautiful their city can be by bike, and how easy it can be to run local errands.
During the class you will learn the "Six Secrets to Being a Savvy Bicyclist" including:
- How planning for your ride in advance makes riding more enjoyable and safe.
- How clear communications skills put you in control.
- Sometimes we act like a driver, sometimes a pedestrian.
- Smart urban skills - how adding the bus or train expand your travel horizons by bike.
- How errand running and shopping by bike can help you achieve your fitness goals, save you substantial money on gas, and learn how beautiful your city is by bike.
- How being a "Street Savvy" bike rider sets a great example to inspire others to do the same!
Bike Shops - Collaborate with Women on Bikes to Host Street Savvy Classes!
The Street Savvy classes will begin being taught via local bike shops in collaboration with Women on Bikes SoCal starting in Long Beach in May of 2012. The class is $20 per participate which includes not only the price of the instructor, but the organization and promotion of the class by Women on Bikes SoCal via social media. It's win/win scenario for bike shops.
Or you can have your bike shop's team trained in the Street Savvy "female friendly" method and teach and promote the classes on your own.
If you would like to be on our email list to be notified of classes please send a note to wobsocal@gmail.com with "Street Savvy class information list" in the headline.
